It has emerged that Blue Bottle Coffee, a favored choice among conscious and ethical consumers in the US, has been sold to Nestlé. The news follows a series of other sales in recent time, with the popular Pukka Teas in the UK having been sold to Unilever. Other high-profile examples include US based craft beer brands recently acquired by massive beer industry giants.

As reported in Business Insider, “On Thursday, news broke that Nestlé had spent up to $500 million to acquire a majority stake in Blue Bottle.” Blue Bottle customers have been vocal in their opposition of the sale, particularly in relation to Nestlé’s questionable ethical standing. Indeed, Nestlé owned brands consistently rank among the lowest for ethics in The Good Shopping Guide. It could very well be a sign of things to come for Blue Bottle Coffee.
