Some of the world’s largest car manufactures have teamed up in what is being described as a pan-European initiative to support the growth in use of EVs.

The collaborative effort includes such global names like BMW Group, Daimler AG and Volkswagen (VW). The initiative has been called IONITY, and the task of the group is to support the launch of approximately 400 High-Power Charging (HPC) stations for EVs by 2020. It is being described as the “first pan-European HPC network”, with 20 stations planned to be opened for public use by the end of 2017.

This joint initiative comes at a time when many other significant announcements have been made by some major global automatic companies with regards to supporting the development and growth of EVs. For example, last month VW announced a new $84 billion investment plan.
