How ethical is Encore?

Encore, a cat and dog food brand owned by MPM Products Ltd / ECI Partners is one of The Good Shopping Guide’s independently-researched pet food brands. Encore is marketed as a natural pet food brand. The brand receives a Good Shopping Guide sub-benchmark score in our Ethical Cat & Dog Food Ratings Table.

We encourage Encore to adopt more ethical policies and practices, which will result in an improved ethical score. One way for Encore to increase consumer and investor trust is by applying for Ethical Accreditation, which would include a thorough examination and recommendations for ethical growth.

More information about the importance of organic cat and dog food, vegan dog food and other ethical issues may be found at The Good Shopping Guide to Ethical Cat and Dog Food.

What does Encore do?

Encore pet food was first launched in 2008, originally for the UK, but now sells products around the world. The brand is owned by MPM Products Ltd and ECI partners. Encore sells cat food in the form of wet and dry food as well as treats. In terms of dog food, the brand sells wet food in pouches and tins.

In which areas does Encore perform well?

Encore’s performs well in the Animal Welfare category of our research. Encore does not test on animals and is featured in the PETA list of cruelty-free pet food brands.

Encore has not received any criticism for environmental or human rights issues and therefore receives a top rating for Public Record Criticisms.

How could Encore improve its rating?

Although Encore’s Environmental Report does contain some good information, the report receives a bottom rating, due to the absence of concrete environmental targets and sufficient detail. To improve its score, we encourage Encore to publish clear targets which demonstrate the ways in which the company seeks to improve its environmental impact.

Additionally, obtaining Organic and Vegetarian/Vegan certification for one or more products would improve Encore’s rating further. In order for Encore to reach our ethical benchmark it should look into improving its Environmental Report as well. Encore could apply for Ethical Accreditation to get more precise recommendations on how to improve.
