Ethical Pet Food: MPM Products (Applaws & Encore)

The Good Shopping Guide is pleased to announce that MPM Products, creators of the ethical pet food brands Applaws and Encore, have attained our Ethical Company Award for the 7th consecutive year, and a high placement in our Ethical Cat & Dog Food Rating Table. 

MPM products was founded in 2002 on the belief that pet foods should contain natural ingredients, not the additives and fillers that are commonplace amongst other brands’ products. Since then, MPM has continued in its mission to enrich the lives of pets and their owners through visibly better pet food, with the Applaws range alone having grown to nearly 200 natural recipes for cats and dogs. 

Given that the foundation of MPM Products is built upon the sole purpose of wanting to provide better quality, ethical pet food, our research team was pleased to find MPM Products achieved an exemplary score for the Animal Welfare portion of our independent ethical audit. This denotes MPM Products having no products tested on animals, or any form of animal testing commissioned, resulting in cruelty-free pet food. This is further showcased by both Applaws and Encore being featured on PETA’s approved list of non-animal tested companion animal food. 

Furthermore, MPM Products scored admirably in other areas of our ethical audit, including Environment and People. This is due to factors such as not using genetically modified ingredients in their products, having a published environmental statement and not trying to unduly influence the political system via donations. 

Given our findings, The Good Shopping Guide is happy to present MPM Products, in addition to Applaws and Encore, with an Ethical Company Award. We were especially impressed by the level of devotion to natural, recognisable and high-quality ingredients that go into every product. Having started with the mission of including no ‘filler’ ingredients, and progressed to only using cuts of human-grade meat, fish from sustainable sources and tuna accredited by the Earth Island Institute, it has been wonderful to watch the company flourish and explore more new and innovative sustainable approaches. We eagerly await its next move as MPM Products continues to revolutionise pet food standards and ethics.
