How ethical and sustainable is Blomberg?
Blomberg is included in The Good Shopping Guide’s dishwashers Ethical Ratings Table. Although Blomberg has not yet met our moral requirements, we are optimistic that it will do so as it develops. Blomberg would have the potential to increase customer confidence by submitting an application for Ethical Accreditation, which involves a more detailed inquiry and suggestions for ethical development.
More information on the importance of energy efficient dishwashers may be found in The Good Shopping Guide to Dishwashers.
What does Blomberg do?
Blomberg was founded in Germany in 1883 and introduced its products to the UK in 2010. Appliances for the kitchen, laundry, dishwashers, and refrigerators are all sold by Blomberg. Dishwashers, washers, ovens, and refrigerators are all integrated into the built-in ranges of the various models.
For which criteria does Blomberg perform poorly?
Although the parent company of the brand is actively associated with subsidiaries in natural gas, oil tankers, and oil refining, Blomberg earned a low score for its participation in fossil fuels. For human rights, code of conduct and weapons, the company obtained a moderate rating. The UK Boycott Turkey group has criticised Blomberg for human rights violations in articles by The Ethical Consumer.
The Blomberg code of conduct handles all relevant concerns, however it is unclear about restrictions on child labour and working hours, abiding by national law without imposing its own limitations. Otokar, a producer of military vehicles utilised in the Turkish defence industry, and other defence companies are owned by Blomberg’s parent corporation.
Past Criticisms of Blomberg’s ethical record
Blomberg faced criticism after 18 fatalities between 2008 and 2015 were linked to serious defects in its petrol cookers. With the door closed, using the grill produced carbon monoxide levels that could instantly kill.
In what areas does Blomberg score well for its ethics?
Blomberg receives a high rating for its environmental report since it provides 2030 targets for energy consumption, water use, electricity use, trash generation, and investments in renewable energy. Blomberg also receives a high score in our Nuclear Power, Animal Welfare and Political Donation categories.
How can Blomberg improve its ethical rating?
The Ethical rating of a brand is divided into three categories by The Good Shopping Guide: the Environment, People and Animals. Find out more about how we rate.
By revising its code of conduct to set its own standards for working conditions and child labour and by severing relationships with some companies that deal with fossil fuels, Blomberg may raise its grade and satisfy our key ethical requirements.
