How ethical and sustainable is Belling?
Belling is included in The Good Shopping Guide’s Fridge-Freezers Ethical Ratings Table. Belling has yet to meet our ethical standards, but we believe that in the future, the brand will make the necessary changes to function as a more ethical organisation. Belling might increase consumer trust by applying for Ethical Accreditation, which would include a more complete examination and suggestions for ethical development.
What does Belling do?
Belling began in 1912 founded by Charles Reginald Belling. The brand sells a range of products such as range cookers, built-in ovens and hobs as well as dishwashers and fridge-freezers. Belling’s built in range offers integrated dishwashers, microwaves and laundry appliances. The dishwasher brand claims to be one of the most loved and trusted British brands. Belling was acquired by the heating and household appliances manufacturer Glen Dimplex Group in 1992.
For which criteria does Belling perform poorly?
Belling’s absence of a code of conduct resulted in a low rating. The company’s parent company has a sustainability report that includes a Net Zero aim and other proof of progress, but no other targets, therefore it obtained a poor rating for the brand’s environmental report. As the parent firm was criticised for not paying its employees a decent wage, Belling also received an uneven evaluation for its treatment of human rights issues.
In what areas does Belling score well for its ethics?
Belling receives a high score for Nuclear Power issues, Fossil Fuels, Animal Welfare concerns, Armaments, Political Donations and Public Record Criticisms as the brand has no links to any of these.
How can Belling improve its ethical rating?
The Ethical rating of a brand is divided into three categories by The Good Shopping Guide: the Environment, People and Animals. Find out more about how we rate.
By publishing a Code of Conduct and a more thorough Environmental Report with a number of goals for the brand to aim towards, Belling may raise its grade and satisfy our fundamental ethical requirements.
Are you curious about how obtaining Ethical Accreditation could be beneficial for your brand? Accredited brands can display The Good Shopping Guide mark, showcasing to consumers that it can be trusted as an ethical and sustainable brand.
