Bosch

How ethical and sustainable is Bosch?

Bosch is included in The Good Shopping Guide’s Dishwasher Ethical Ratings Table. Bosch has not yet upheld our ethical standards, but we are hopeful that in the future, the company will reform in order to do business in a more moral manner. By requesting Ethical Accreditation, which would entail a more thorough investigation and recommendations for ethical development, Bosch might raise consumer trust.

More information on the issues this industry faces may be found in The Good Shopping Guide to Eco-friendly dishwashers.

What does Bosch do?

Beginning in 1898 as an automotive company, Bosch eventually expanded into other sectors. There are now about 50 outlets for the brand in the UK. Along with producing and selling washing machines, Bosch also manufactures and sells cookware, gardening tools, heating and hot water appliances, power tools, smart home goods, and numerous more household appliances.

For which criteria does Bosch perform poorly?

Bosch receives a low ranking for political donations and human rights considerations. While about 1,000 people in Germany may lose their employment by 2025, thousands of workers protested against planned plant closures, which prompted criticism of Robert Bosch. Also, the business has donated more than $84,000 to candidates in recent elections.

Past Criticisms of Bosch’s ethical record

Bosch came under fire after receiving a dismal score on the Corporate Information Transparency Index, which evaluates a company’s supply chain activities. Bosch has faced criticism after agreeing to pay $25 million to settle a dispute alleging its role in diesel emissions problems.

In what areas does Bosch score well for its ethics?

The Bosch sustainability report includes goals for water use, renewable energy sources, and carbon emissions, as well as proof of success in each of these categories. This report gives Bosch a favourable review. Additionally, Bosch has a tough code of conduct that specifies that working hours and child labour must correspond to ILO requirements, which are harsher than many countries’ legal frameworks and therefore meet The Good Shopping Guide’s criteria. The brand also receives a high score for Armaments, Nuclear issues, Fossil Fuels and Animal Welfare.

How can Bosch improve its ethical rating?

The Ethical rating of a brand is divided into three categories by The Good Shopping Guide: the Environment, People and Animals. Find out more about how we rate.

If Bosch avoids making any additional political contributions and re-evaluates how the company treats its employees, it might improve its score and meet our fundamental ethical requirement.
