Ecotricity is one of the top-rated Energy suppliers on The GOOD Shopping Guide’s Ethical Energy Suppliers Ratings Table and has achieved Ethical Accreditation. With an excellent score of 98, Ecotricity is classed as an ethical company by The GOOD Shopping Guide.

What does Ecotricity do?

Owned by The Green Britain Group and founded by Dale Vince, Ecotricity is an energy supplier with a mission to end the use of fossil fuels. The company uses wind and sun mills which it has built across the UK in  order to produce entirely green electricity. Ecotricity was founded in 1995 as the world’s first green energy company and is now forging the future of sustainable gas, using gasmills fed by grass cuttings.

In which areas does Ecotricity perform well?

Ecotricity performs well across all of our Environmental criteria including the Environmental Report category. Ecotricity has a recent Sustainability Report as well as lots of proof of progress and targets on its website. Ecotricity committed to being carbon neutral by 2025 all the way back in 2019 and was the first and only energy company to stand alongside Extinction Rebellion and declare a climate emergency.

Ecotricity also gets a top score for its Energy Mix which is 100% renewable meaning no fossil fuels like oil, coal or gas are burned to produce its electricity.

What makes Ecotricity an Ethical Innovator?

The GOOD Shopping Guide has awarded Ecotricity with the prestigious title of Ethical Innovator, reserved for only the most standout ethical businesses. This award recognises all of the extra initiatives Ecotricity is a part of that demonstrate its ethical ethos. Such initiatives include: Vegan-certified energy, using profit to build 74 windmills and 3 sun parks across Britain, and various carbon reduction projects around the world.

As well as this, we found no criticisms of Ecotricity relating to Pollution, Animal Welfare or Armaments, therefore the brand receives a top rating for these criteria.
