Gaggenau

How ethical and sustainable is Gaggenau?

Gaggenau is included in The Good Shopping Guide’s Fridge-Freezers Ethical Ratings Table. Gaggenau has not yet upheld our ethical standards, but we are confident that in the future, the company will change in order to operate in a more moral manner. By requesting Ethical Accreditation, which includes a more thorough review and recommendations for ethical development, Gaggenau may be able to build consumer trust.

What does Gaggenau do?

Gaggenau began in 1683 and sells a large range of ovens, dishwashers, wie cabinets, cooktops, coffee machines and much more. Gaggenau was acquired by Bosch in 1995.

For which criteria does Gaggenau perform poorly?

Gaggenau received a poor review for its support of political causes and consideration of human rights. Tens of thousands of Robert Bosch employees protested against planned plant closures, which could result in the loss of 1,000 jobs for German workers by 2025, putting pressure on Gaggenau. Also, the company gave more than $84,000 to political candidates in recent elections.

Past Criticisms of Gaggenau’s ethical record

Bosch received criticism after paying $25 million to resolve a complaint alleging their role in diesel emissions problems.

In what areas does Gaggenau score well for its ethics?

Gaggenau’s Environmental Report is given a favourable review. The sustainability report Bosch created outlines goals for carbon emissions, water usage, and renewable energy sources and evaluates how well these goals are being accomplished. Bosch’s strong Code of Conduct, which mandates that working hours and child labour should adhere to ILO norms, which are stricter than many countries’ legislation, complies with The Good Purchasing Guide’s requirements. The company also obtains great marks for its stance on Animal Welfare, Nuclear issues and Armaments.

How can Gaggenau improve its ethical rating?

The Ethical rating of a brand is divided into three categories by The Good Shopping Guide: the Environment, People and Animals. Find out more about how we rate.

By ceasing all political donations and reevaluating how it treats employees, Gaggenau may raise its grade and achieve our core ethical criteria.
