Grundig

How ethical and sustainable is Grundig?

Grundig is included in The Good Shopping Guide’s dishwashers Ethical Ratings Table. Although Grundig has not yet upheld our ethical standards, we are hopeful that it will soon start acting more morally. Grundig would have the chance to boost customer confidence by applying for Ethical Accreditation, which would entail a more thorough investigation and recommendations for ethical development.

What does Grundig do?

Gundig was founded in 1945, Germany but now works in more than 65 countries worldwide. The brand sells a range of home appliances such as refrigerators, dishwashers, cooking appliances and other small devices. The brand also provides a collection of integrated dishwashers with a choice of full size or slimline.

For which criteria does Grundig perform poorly?

Due to its parent company’s extensive participation in oil tankers, natural gas, and oil refinery businesses, Grundig received a bad score for its interest in fossil fuels. The company obtained a neutral evaluation for its stance on human rights, code of conduct and weapons. The UK Boycott Turkey group has criticised Grundig for violating human rights problems.

The Grundig code of conduct includes all pertinent areas, however it is ambiguous about limitations on child labour and working hours, abiding by national legislation without imposing its own limits. The parent company of Grundig owns additional defence companies as well as Otokar, a manufacturer of military vehicles used in the Turkish defence sector.

Past Criticisms of Grundig’s ethical record

Once significant flaws in Grundig’s gasoline cookers were implicated in the deaths of 18 persons between 2008 and 2015, Grundig came under fire. If the grill was utilised with the door closed, the cookers created quantities of carbon monoxide high enough to kill within minutes.

In what areas does Grundig score well for its ethics?

Grundig achieves a high rating for its environmental report since it includes 2030 targets for energy consumption, water use, electricity use, waste generation, and investments in renewable energy sources. Grundig also receives a high score in our Nuclear Power, Animal Welfare and Political Donation categories.

How can Grundig improve its ethical rating?

The Ethical rating of a brand is divided into three categories by The Good Shopping Guide: the Environment, People and Animals. Find out more about how we rate.

Grundig may improve its score and meet our fundamental ethical standards by amending its code of conduct to establish its own restrictions on child labour and working hours and by cutting ties with some businesses that deal with fossil fuels.
