How ethical and sustainable is Lily’s Kitchen?
Lily’s Kitchen is a Nestlé owned pet food brand. The brand scored poorly in our Ethical Cat and Dog Food Ratings Table. Lily’s Kitchen is (at the time of writing) unable to receive Ethical Accreditation because it does not meet The Good Shopping Guide’s ethical standards. Regardless, we believe this organisation will start changing and become ethically accredited in the upcoming years.
What is Lily’s Kitchen and what does it do?
Lily’s owner, Henrietta, searched for pet food with genuine, natural ingredients for more than ten years. After Lily became unwell with sore and itchy skin, Henrietta started cooking everything herself to help nurse her back to health. Henrietta wondered why all animal pals couldn’t have access to proper food when Lily, a beloved family member, deserved nothing but that. Henrietta then made the decision to work with some excellent nutritionists and veterinarians to develop delectable, premium cuisine utilising natural ingredients, and Lily’s Kitchen was established.
Unfortunately, in 2020, Lily’s Kitchen was acquired by Nestlé, which has negatively impacted its ethical rating.
Where does Lily’s Kitchen score well as a brand ethically?
Despite its association with Nestlé, Lily’s Kitchen displays some strong ethical attributes. Although not Ethically Accredited, the brand scores well in areas in categories such as having a strong Environmental Report and offering a range of Organic and Vegetarian/vegan products.
How can Lily’s Kitchen improve its Ethical Rating?
In order to improve its Ethical Rating, Lily’s Kitchen needs to consider taking action on areas of interest such as Animal Welfare, Genetic Modification, etc. Currently, Lily’s Kitchen is owned by Nestlé and has been criticised for its treatment of animals, along with several environmental and human rights issues.
