Neff

How ethical and sustainable is Neff?

Neff is included in The Good Shopping Guide’s Washing Machines Ethical Ratings Table. Neff has not yet upheld our ethical standards, but we are confident that in the future, the company will change in order to operate in a more ethical and sustainable manner. By requesting Ethical Accreditation from The Good Shopping Guide, which includes a more thorough review and recommendations for ethical development, Neff may be able to build consumer trust and cut through the greenwash.

More information on the issues this industry faces may be found in The Good Shopping Guide to eco-friendly washing machine brands. Then, in our Washing Machines Ethical Ratings Table compare it to other brands.

What does Neff do?

Neff began in 1877 and sells a range of kitchen appliances from fridge freezers, dishwashers, drawers, microwaves, hobs and ovens. Bosch acquired Neff in 1982 when AEG went bankrupt.

For which criteria does Neff perform poorly?

Neff scored a low Ethical Rating for its Political Donations and concerns for Human Rights. Neff came under fire as thousands of workers at its parent company, Bosch, protested against proposed factory closures because, by 2025, about 1,000 people in Germany may lose their jobs. The company has also given more than $84k to candidates in recent elections.

Past Criticisms of Neff’s ethical record

Bosch was also criticised after agreeing to pay $25 million to resolve a case of involvement in diesel emissions scandals.

In what areas does Neff score well for its ethics?

Neff receives a good rating for its Environmental Report. The Sustainability Report created by Bosch sets goals for its carbon emissions, water use, and renewable energy sources, and it also shows how well these goals are doing. Bosch has a rigorous Code of Conduct, which mentions that working hours and child labour should adhere to ILO conventions which are harsher than many countries’ laws—meets The Good Shopping Guide‘s requirements. The company also obtains great marks for its stance on Animal Welfare, Nuclear issues and Armaments.

How can Neff improve its Ethical Rating?

The Ethical Rating of a brand is divided into three categories by The Good Shopping Guide: the Environment, People and Animals. Find out more about how we rate.

Neff might apply for Ethical Accreditation for more detailed guidance on how to improve.

Neff may improve its Ethical Rating and meet our fundamental Ethical Benchmark by stopping all Political Donations and re-examining how the company treats employees.
