Is Shell Broadband an ethical broadband brand?

Unfortunately, within The Good Shopping Guide’s Ethical Broadband Providers sector, Shell is a below-benchmark brand and therefore cannot be classed as ethical.

Even though it currently does not meet our minimum Ethical Benchmark, we still encourage Shell to apply for Ethical Accreditation. The Good Shopping Guide would provide Shell with a thorough assessment and some suggestions on how it can raise its bottom rating.

If you wish to find out how other broadband providers within the Ethical Broadband Providers sector compare against Shell, visit the Broadband Providers Ethical Ratings Table. Our Ratings Table can help you to find out more about the criteria that a brand needs to meet so that it can reach our minimum Ethical Benchmark.

The Good Shopping Guide urges all companies to follow the example set by our top-rated brands and introduce more ethical practices and apply for Ethical Accreditation.

What does Shell receive a top rating for?

The Good Shopping Guide awards Shell with a top rating for our Environmental Report category. Shell has a recent Sustainability Report which contains various targets. These targets include the goal of reducing carbon emissions by 50% by 2030 and reaching Net Zero by 2050. Shell’s report also contains evidence of progress on previous targets.

What does Shell receive a bottom rating for?

Unfortunately, Shell receives a bottom rating for our Fossil Fuels category as it is well known for being one of the largest oil and gas companies in the world. Shell also receives a bottom rating for Animal Welfare as it tests on animals.

What can Shell do to improve its score?

Shell’s below-benchmark score on The Good Shopping Guide’s Broadband Providers Ethical Ratings Table is the result of a calculation of multiple ethical criteria. Despite it currently having a below benchmark score, The Good Shopping Guide still encourages Shell to get in touch and apply for Ethical Accreditation. By doing so, we can offer it some guidance on how to improve and become one of our best broadband providers.
