Is Standard Life an ethical pensions brand?
Standard Life, owned by Phoenix Group Holdings Plc is a brand which provides pensions. Unfortunately, Standard Life does not reach our minimum Ethical Benchmark. Due to this, it has a low score on The Good Shopping Guide’s Ethical Pensions Ratings Table and cannot be classed as one of our best pension providers. Although it does not yet meet our minimum Ethical Benchmark, we still encourage Standard Life to apply for Ethical Accreditation.

Also within Phoenix Group’s Sustainability Report, there are details on greenhouse gas reduction targets and the goal of reaching Net Zero. This information also awards Standard Life a top score for our Carbon Disclosure and Reduction Targets category.
What does Standard Life receive a bottom score for?
Standard Life unfortunately receives a bottom score for Environmental Destruction. In the most recent report by Amazon Watch ‘Complicity in Destruction IV’, it is revealed that Standard Life has provided $800.3 million through loans and underwriting to companies which are negatively linked to Amazon deforestation and breaches of indigenous rights.
What can Standard Life do to improve its score?
Standard Life’s bottom score within The Good Shopping Guide is the result of an evaluation of multiple ethical criteria. If Standard Life were to work on its bottom ratings, including its bottom score for Environmental Destruction, it could see its score rise on the Ethical Pensions Ratings Table.
