Premium German carmaker, Audi, has outlined plans to sell 800,000 battery-electric and hybrid powered cars in 2025. The plans come as the carmarker seeks to rival Tesla, and repair its reputation after the emissions-cheating scandal.

As reported by Reuters, “Audi will launch more than 20 electrified vehicles by 2025 thanks to an ability for using parent Volkswagen’s (VOWG_p.DE) new MEB modular platform and vehicle underpinnings jointly developed with premium sibling Porsche, it said”.

The company’s announcement follows a long list of carmakers to make similar investment commitments, most recently Ford and Jaguar. Whether this helps repair the Audi brand is a different matter, especially as Germany’s Transport Ministry revealed 60,000 Audi diesel cars were being actively investigated for emissions-cheating software.
