Diesel car sales continued to decline in the UK 2017, with a record number electric and hybrid cars registered.

There have been suggestions of such a trend for some time, but the latest industry figures make it very clear. A higher tax on diesel cars, along with an increase in availability and the lowering of costs of such ethical alternatives as electric and hybrid cars, has resulted in tangible signs of a trend toward the low-carbon market. In fact, the low-carbon market continued to grow by more than one-third (34.8%) according to the latest numbers delivered by the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT).
