The Body Shop has been making the news quite regularly in recent time. After years ranking among the worst on the ethical index, the popular brand made a tremendous climb up the ethical charts in 2017, following our latest independent research.

In recent weeks, the brand also confirmed plans to ensure that 70% of product packaging is not derived from fossil fuels by 2020. This follows great progress being made in the area of material sciences, particularly when it comes to bio-based polymers. Plastics made from non-renewable hydrocarbons, such as oil and gas, are pieces of a much larger and complex picture that industry faces when it comes to combating climate change. One focus is therefore to develop new plastics derived from bio-mass sources, which is the inspiration behind a number of recent packaging inventions
