What does Alienware do?
Alienware was founded in 1996 as Saikai of Miami, Inc. by childhood friends Nelson Gonzalez and Alex Aguila. The brand manufactures desktops, notebooks, workstations, and PC gaming consoles. Employees claim that the name Alienware was chosen due to the founder’s love of the hit television show The X-Files, which also inspired the science-fiction-themed names of product lines such as Area-51, Hangar 18, and Aurora. It changed its name to Alienware in 1997.
For which criteria does Alienware perform poorly?
Despite Alienware’s progress ethically, there is still room for improvement. Alienware was marked down under our criteria for The Good Shopping Guide’s research in Human Rights, Fossil Fuels, and Armaments. This is because Alienware’s parent company, Dell, has been linked to human rights abuses and is also involved in the Defence and Oil & Gas industries.
In what areas does Alienware score well for its ethics?
The brand received a top rating in the Animal Welfare category, as neither Alienware or its parent company has been linked to any recent cases of animal abuse or cruelty.

How can Alienware improve its Ethical Rating?
The Good Shopping Guide Ethical Scores result from multiple ethical criteria, and Alienware’s score has been calculated from these criteria. To reach our minimum Ethical Benchmark and qualify for Ethical Accreditation, Alienware has some issues to resolve, including its score in the Human Rights, Fossil Fuels and Armaments criteria.
