The HP Company (now known as HP) was established in 1939. back when the use of technology was far less widespread than it is now. Computers that were entirely electronic didn’t exist. The only printers available were large-format printing presses. It would take decades for the internet to take off.

The early rise in the cost of home computers and printers for the typical customer was facilitated by HP’s breakthroughs, and the brand’s establishment helped spark a wave of electronics startups in Santa Clara County, California.
