How ethical is LG?

LG is listed in The Good Shopping Guide’s Ethical PCs, Laptops, and Tablets Ratings Table. In our Ethical PCs, Laptops, and Tablets Ratings Table, the brand receives a low Good Shopping Guide Ethical Score and so does not pass our ethical criteria to be considered a good ethical brand.

More information on the necessity of ethical computers may be found in The Good Shopping Guide to Sustainable & Ethical Computers. You can also look at our Ethical PCs, Laptops and Tablets Ratings Table to compare LG to other brands.

What does LG do?

The first step for LG Corporation began in 1947 when LuckyChemical Co Ltd was established. LG Electronics was founded in 1958 under the name Goldstar. LG Electronics is a part of the LG corporation and sells a range of ethical laptops, Tv’s as well as electric kitchen appliances such as Fridge Freezers, dishwashers and washing machines.

In what areas does LG perform well?

Despite its low overall score, LG does perform well in some categories. This includes a top rating for Nuclear Power, Fossil Fuels and Armaments, due to the company’s lack of involvement in these industries.

In what areas does LG perform poorly?

LG receives a bottom rating in the Human Rights and Other Criticisms criteria, due to its links to unethical practices towards the environment and people. This includes allegations of worker exploitation and forced labour by LG suppliers.

How could LG rate higher on our Ethical PCs, Laptops and Tablets Ratings Table?

According to The Good Shopping Guide, LG does not qualify for Ethical Accreditation because of its low score. This is reviewed by looking at the Environment, Animals, and People inside an organisation and how much the brand respects this.

To improve its score and become an eligible Ethical Accreditation candidate, LG should work on its low ratings in the Human Rights and Other Criticisms criteria, as well as its other low-scoring research categories.
