What does Tilda do?

Tilda is the brand name used since 1970 for a rice and related food products company headquartered in Rainham, England and with offices in Dubai, (UAE) and Delhi (India). Its basmati rice is the top-selling rice in the United Kingdom.

In which areas does Tilda perform poorly?

Tilda gets a middle rating for GM as it does not have a GMO statement available, and for Organic as it lacks any certification. Find out more about how we rate by exploring our ethical criteria.

Past Criticisms of Tilda’s record

Forest 500 identifies the 350 companies and 150 financial institutions with the greatest exposure to tropical deforestation risk, and annually assesses them on the strength and implementation of their deforestation and human rights commitments. In 2022 Tilda’s parent company, Ebro Foods, received a score of 8%.

In which areas does Tilda score well for its ethics?

Tilda’s parent company, Ebro Foods, has a CSR Report 2022 with evidence of the progress it has made, and a page called Caring for the Planet which contains targets, so Tilda gets a top score for its Environmental Report.

We found no criticisms of Tilda relating to Nuclear, Fossil Fuels, Animal Welfare, Political Donations or Armaments so it scores well for these criteria.

How can Tilda improve its ethical rating?

The below-benchmark score that Tilda is awarded on The Good Shopping Guide’s Ethical Pasta, Pulses & Rice Ratings Table is the result of an evaluation of multiple ethical criteria.

To reach our minimum ethical benchmark and qualify for Ethical Accreditation, Tilda has some issues to resolve, including  its lack of a GMO statement, and possible involvement in deforestation. If it applies for Ethical Accreditation, The Good Shopping Guide will be able to give Tilda some guidance to improve on these areas.
