Octopus: Energy of the Future

Octopus Energy has been awarded Ethical Accreditation from The GOOD Shopping Guide for the third consecutive year, following a comprehensive screening of its ethical and sustainability policies and practices.
After the most recent evaluation, Octopus has maintained its top-ranking GSG Ethical Score of 100 in the Energy Suppliers Comparison table.
In the last year, Octopus surpassed British Gas and became Britain’s largest household energy supplier, illustrating the success potential of innovative ethical businesses.
Ethical All-Rounder
Octopus also features on our list of our Top 200 Ethical Businesses. This recognition showcases their commitment to environmental and social responsibility. With an impressive TrustPilot score of 4.8 stars as well as a Which? recommendation, Octopus is a verifiably standout choice for the ethical consumer looking for an energy supplier which delivers on all fronts.
Octopus’ top-ranking GSG Ethical score of 100 in our research, is a result of top ratings across our various ethical criteria, which fall under the main categories of: the environment, animals, and people. Famed for its customer service and charity initiatives such as the Energy Equality Foundation, Octopus proves that it cares about people in both small and large ways, always going the extra mile to make sure that its customers are getting the best deal not just for them, but for the wider community too.
Net Zero: Sooner Than You Think
Octopus offers an abundance of thorough, ambitious and transparent sustainability information on its website, such as the Future Generations Report 2024, Reaching Net Zero, and Green Power page. The highlights of these include an aspirational Net Zero goal of 2040, featuring an intermediary target of reducing scope 1 & 2 emissions by 90% by 2030.
The Octopus Electroverse also covers over 75% (half a million) of the UK’s public EV charging networks.
Octopus isn’t just interested in the company reaching Net Zero, it’s actively pushing for the rest of the world to get there too as one of Europe’s largest investors in renewable energy.
For People Too
One of the many ways in which Octopus stands out from other energy suppliers is its response to the cost of living crisis. Where other energy suppliers raked in monster profits, Octopus decided to give back instead via the Octo Assist Fund. The whopping £30 million fund was set up by the company to help keep vulnerable customers warm without worry. The service included free electric blankets, Winter Fuel Payments, standing charge waivers and more.
An Ethical Figurehead
Octopus has also retained its Ethical Innovator status and it’s not hard to see why. Octopus doesn’t just source green energy from over 700 UK green energy producers, it also pays over 100,000 British people for the solar power generated from their solar panels. Sourcing more local energy as opposed to importing less sustainable options from abroad dramatically reduces the company and its customers’ carbon footprints. By spotlighting British energy, Octopus shows that it’s giving back to the wider community wherever it can.
Octopus Energy is truly a standout example of not just an ethical energy supplier, but an ethical business through and through.
