How ethical is AEG?

AEG is an appliance brand which was founded in Berlin in 1883. The name is a shortened form of the original ‘Deutsche Edison-Gessellschaft für angewandte Elektricität’ and originally produced electrical equipment such as light bulbs.

AEG has been given a below-benchmark score on The Good Shopping Guide’s Ethical Vacuum Cleaners Ratings Table. Although it has not yet met our ethical benchmark, we hope to see AEG make progress in future.

In which areas does AEG perform poorly?

AEG is awarded a middle rating for our Human Rights and Code of Conduct criteria, as it does not have a robust statement regarding child labour, and there is evidence of forced labour at some factories in China supplying companies such as AEG’s parent company, Electrolux.

In which areas does AEG score well for its ethics?

AEG’s parent company, Electrolux, has a Sustainability Report 2021 with lots of evidence of progress and targets for 2025, so AEG gets a top rating for its Environmental Report.

We found no criticisms of AEG relating to; Nuclear Power, Fossil Fuels, Animal Welfare, or Armaments, so it scores well for these criteria.

How can AEG improve its ethical rating?
