Bosch

How ethical and sustainable is Bosch?

Bosch is included in The Good Shopping Guide’s Fridge-Freezers Ethical Ratings Table. Bosch has yet to meet our ethical standards, but we believe that in the future, the brand will make the necessary changes to function as a more ethical organisation. Bosch might increase consumer trust by applying for Ethical Accreditation, which would include a more complete examination and suggestions for ethical development.

What does Bosch do?

Bosch began in 1898 as an automotive business eventually branching out into other industries. The brand now has around 50 locations in the UK. Bosch produces a range of products as well as dishwashers; it also sells Cookers, Garden tools, heating and hot water products, power tools, smart home products and many other home appliances.

For which criteria does Bosch perform poorly?

For political donations and concerns about human rights, Bosch earns a low score. Several thousand workers demonstrated against proposed plant closures as about 1,000 employees in Germany will lose their jobs by 2025, prompting criticism of Robert Bosch. The company has also given more than our threshold to candidates in recent elections.

Past Criticisms of Bosch’s ethical record

After agreeing to pay $25 million to resolve a case involving its involvement in diesel emissions issues, Bosch came under fire.

In what areas does Bosch score well for its ethics?

The sustainability report from Bosch covers targets for carbon emissions, water use, and renewable energy sources, as well as evidence of progress made in each of these areas. This report earns Bosch a good rating. Moreover, Bosch has a severe code of conduct that mentions that working hours and child labour should adhere to ILO regulations, which are stricter than the laws of many nations and therefore meet The Good Shopping Guide’s criteria. The brand also receives a high score for Armaments, Nuclear issues, Fossil Fuels and Animal Welfare.

How can Bosch improve its ethical rating?

The Ethical rating of a brand is divided into three categories by The Good Shopping Guide: the Environment, People and Animals. Find out more about how we rate.

Bosch might raise its score and achieve our fundamental ethical standard if it stops making any more political donations and re-examines how it treats its employees.

Are you curious about how obtaining Ethical Accreditation could be beneficial for your brand?
