Is Budweiser an ethical beer, lager and cider brand?

Budweiser is a popular American-style lager brand owned by AB InBev. Unfortunately, Budweiser is not one of The Good Shopping Guide’s top-rated brands of lager within the Ethical Beer, Lager and Cider sector due to its low score.

Although it does not yet meet our benchmark, we still recommend that Budweiser get in touch and apply for Ethical Accreditation. After receiving its application, The Good Shopping Guide would provide Budweiser with an evaluation and some advice on how to make sustainable and ethical improvements to its brand.

To find out how other well-known lager brands within the Ethical Beer, Lager and Cider sector compare against Budweiser, have a look at the Beer, Lager and Cider Ethical Ratings Table. Our Ratings Table can show you what criteria a brand has to fulfil to achieve meeting our minimum ethical benchmark.

The Good Shopping Guide encourages all brands to follow in the footsteps of our top-rated brands and introduce more ethical practices.

What does Budweiser receive a top rating for?

Like other brands owned by AB InBev, Budweiser receives a top rating for its Environmental Report. On its website, AB InBev has a recent ESG report as well as a Sustainability page which shares details of its sustainability targets.

What scores does Budweiser need to work on?

Budweiser receives a bottom score from The Good Shopping Guide for Genetic Modification. Multiple articles mention that Bud Light (a Budweiser product) contains genetically modified corn syrup which is why it receives a bottom score in this category.

What can Budweiser do to improve its score?

The Good Shopping Guide calculated multiple ethical criteria before giving Budweiser a below benchmark score within the Ethical Beer, Lager and Cider sector.
