CeraVe

Is CeraVe an ethical brand?

CeraVe is a skincare brand, owned by L’Oréal, that has been researched and assessed by The Good Shopping Guide. Unfortunately, as indicated by its low Good Shopping Guide score in our Ethical Skincare Ratings Table, CeraVe does not meet our requirements to be considered an ethical brand. This is primarily due to the unethical policies and practices of its owner, L’Oréal.

The Good Shopping Guide encourages CeraVe, and all other low-scoring brands in the Skincare sector, to reach for a higher ethical standard of business practice.

Where does CeraVe score poorly?

Regrettably, CeraVe has a poor performance in the Animals sub-category of our Skincare assessment.

CeraVe is not cruelty-free, as it allows its products to be tested on animals when legally required, such as in the Chinese market. Additionally, L’Oréal is well known for its heavy involvement in animal testing. CeraVe also does not have any products labelled or certified as vegan. Consequently, CeraVe receives a bottom rating in both of the Animals categories; Animal Welfare and Vegetarian/Vegan Verified.

In what areas does CeraVe perform well ethically?

The Good Shopping Guide carefully researches a brand’s Environmental Report, since a brand or company’s documents relating to environmental issues frequently provide a good indication of that brand or company’s awareness of its impact on our planet, as well as its commitment to improving it. Despite its many flaws, L’Oréal has an acceptable report which outlines the company’s targets for improving in areas such as carbon emissions, water consumption and more.

How can CeraVe improve its ethical rating?

The Good Shopping Guide uses numerous ethical criteria to establish CeraVe’s score. To attain a higher GSG score, CeraVe must work on its low ratings in the following categories: Organic, Vegetarian/Vegan Verified, Irresponsible Marketing, Political Donations and Public Record Criticisms.
