How ethical is Clipper?

Clipper, owned by Ecotone Ltd, is one of The Good Shopping Guide’s leading ethical tea brands and ranks at the top of our Ethical Tea Ratings Table. The brand receives a high Good Shopping Guide score in our Ethical Tea Ratings Table and therefore passes our benchmark as a good, ethical brand.

We encourage other companies in the Tea sector to follow Clipper’s example and adopt more ethical guidelines and methods.

What does Clipper do?

Founded in 1984 in a Dorset kitchen by a husband and wife team, Clipper expanded into the coffee business in 1998. The company was purchased by Ecotone (known as Royal Wessanen at the time) in 2012. Today, more than 150 different Clipper items are offered for sale in more than 50 nations.

In what areas does Clipper perform well?

Clipper receives a top rating in the majority of research areas, which has resulted in its high GSG score.

For instance, Clipper receives a top rating for Organic and Fairtrade, as its teas are certified by the Soil Association and Fairtrade Foundation.

How could Clipper rate higher on our Ethical Tea Ratings Tables?

Due to its high ranking, Clipper is eligible for Ethical Accreditation from The Good Shopping Guide. To improve its score further, the brand should invest its efforts in obtaining this status. Once Ethical Accreditation has been awarded, Clipper will then be able to get a top score on our Ethical Tea Brands Ratings Table.
