Colgate

Is Colgate an ethical toothpaste brand?

Manufactured by the Colgate-Palmolive Company, Colgate is a well-known oral hygiene brand.

Within The Good Shopping Guide’s Ethical Toothpaste Sector, Colgate receives a below-benchmark score. Due to its low score, Colgate does not meet our minimum benchmark and cannot yet be classed as an ethical toothpaste brand.

Although it does not reach our minimum ethical benchmark, The Good Shopping Guide still encourages Colgate to get in touch and apply for Ethical Accreditation. By applying, we would be able to offer Colgate an assessment and some advice on how to work on its scores so that its position rises on our Ratings Table.

Do you want to find out how Colgate rates against other popular brands within the Ethical Toothpaste Sector? Have a look at the Toothpaste Ethical Ratings Table.  The Good Shopping Guide’s Ratings Table can teach you about the criteria that our top-rated brands have fulfilled to meet our minimum ethical benchmark.

All brands are encouraged by The Good Shopping Guide to follow in the footsteps of our top-rated brands and begin introducing more sustainable practices.

Does Colgate produce any vegan toothpaste?

Colgate’s ‘Smile for Good’ toothpaste range is certified by The Vegan Society. As a result, it receives a top rating in our Vegetarian/Vegan category.

Why does Colgate receive a bottom rating for our Animal Welfare category?

Unfortunately, Colgate still takes part in animal testing. It states on its website that animal tests are conducted when it is required by regulatory agencies or alternative methods are not suitable.

What can Colgate do to improve its score?

Colgate’s below benchmark score within The Good Shopping Guide’s Ethical Toothpaste Sector is the result of a calculation of multiple ethical criteria.

As it has a low score in the Ethical Toothpaste Sector we recommend that Colgate get in touch and apply for Ethical Accreditation. After receiving its application, The Good Shopping Guide will offer Colgate tips on how to improve its bottom scores, including its bottom rating for Animal welfare.

Did you know that your toothpaste brand could benefit from Ethical Accreditation? Our accredited brands proudly display our logo, displaying to consumers that its products are both ethical and sustainable.
