Hill’s

How ethical is Hill’s?

Hill’s is a brand of dog and cat food owned by Colgate-Palmolive Company. As well as regular pet food, Hill’s sells pet food for a variety of pet conditions such as dry skin, stiff joints and digestive issues.

Unfortunately, Hill’s does not meet our minimum ethical benchmark due to its low rank on The Good Shopping Guide’s Ethical Cat and Dog Food Ratings Table. If Hill’s were to apply for Ethical Accreditation, The Good Shopping Guide could provide it with a detailed assessment and recommendations on how it can improve to reach our benchmark.

The Ethical Cat and Dog Food Ratings Table shows where Hill’s rates against other brands within its sector and can help you learn more about the criteria that it needs to meet in order to reach our minimum ethical benchmark.

We encourage all brands to follow in the footsteps of our top-rated brands and apply for Ethical Accreditation.

Does Hill’s have an Environmental Report?

Hill’s receives a top score from The Good Shopping Guide for its Environmental Report. It has a page dedicated to sustainability and lists its three guiding philosophies. These are: science-led nutrition, pets bring people together and helping the planet for a new generation. On its website, Hill’s parent company Colgate-Palmolive Company also has a page dedicated to its sustainability policies and annual reports.

What does Hill’s receive a bottom score for?

Hill’s parent company Colgate Palmolive Company states that it is “committed to work toward the elimination of laboratory safety testing using animals”. However as the brand still tests on animals, The Good Shopping Guide has given Hill’s a bottom score for Animal Welfare.

What can Hill’s do to improve its score?

Hill’s score is the result of a calculation of multiple ethical criteria carried out by The Good Shopping Guide. If Hill’s were to improve its bottom score for Animal Welfare, it could see its place rise on our Ethical Cat and Dog Food Ratings Table.

We hope that Hill’s will improve upon its bottom ratings so that its score can improve and we could offer it Ethical Accreditation for its Cat and Dog food.
