JĀSÖN

How ethical and sustainable is JĀSÖN?

JĀSÖN is included in The Good Shopping Guide‘s Sun Protection Ethical Ratings Table. Although JĀSÖN has not yet lived up to our ethical standards, we are sure that in the future, the company will make the necessary adjustments to operate in a more ethical manner. Applying for Ethical Accreditation, which would entail a more thorough investigation and recommendations for ethical development, might help JĀSÖN gain the trust of customers.

What does JĀSÖN do?

The brand was established in 1959 and offers a range of products for the face, body, hair, teeth and gums. You can read more about the brand here.

JĀSÖN Natural products was acquired by The Hain Celestial Group Inc. in 2004. The brand’s skincare is described as Reef safe and biodegradable and made for families and kids.

For which criteria does JĀSÖN perform poorly?

The brand’s sustainability report contains multiple future targets but is fairly vague, this report also mentions no animal testing but there is no clear FCOD or CFI certification hence the middle rating.

Hain celestial group has donated over $19k in recent election cycles.

Past Criticisms of JĀSÖN’s ethical record

JĀSÖN faced criticism when Hain Celestial received a low score of 15% on the impacts on the tropical forest. This is determined by the brand’s public policies and commitments and potential impacts on tropical forest within the context of forest risk commodities, such as palm oil, soy, beef, leather, timber and paper. In what areas does JĀSÖN score well for its ethics?

JĀSÖN receives a high score for Organic products, Nuclear issues and Armaments. The brand has a USDA certified organic coconut oil which is marketed as a skin/hair product.

How can JĀSÖN improve its ethical rating?
