Neff

How ethical and sustainable is Neff?

Neff is included in The Good Shopping Guide’s Fridge-Freezers Ethical Ratings Table. Neff has not yet upheld our ethical standards, but we are confident that in the future, the company will change in order to operate in a more moral manner. By requesting Ethical Accreditation, which includes a more thorough review and recommendations for ethical development, Neff may be able to build consumer trust.

What does Neff do?

Neff began in 1877 creating products for enthusiastic cooks to make life easier. The brand produces a Slide&Hide oven door that disappears when open. Neff sells a range of kitchen appliances from Fridge freezers, dishwashers, drawers, microwaves, hobs and ovens. Bosch acquired Neff in 1982 when AEG went bankrupt.

For which criteria does Neff perform poorly?

For its political donations and attention to human rights, Neff was given a low rating. Neff came under pressure when tens of thousands of employees at its parent firm Robert Bosch demonstrated against planned manufacturing closures due to the possibility of 1,000 German workers losing their jobs by 2025. Also, the business has donated more than our threshold to candidates in recent elections.

Past Criticisms of Neff’s ethical record

Bosch was criticised after settling a case involving its role in diesel emissions issues for $25 million.

In what areas does Neff score well for its ethics?

Neff’s Environmental Report is given a favourable review. The sustainability report Bosch produced outlines objectives for water usage, renewable energy sources, and carbon emissions and assesses how well these objectives are being met. The requirements of The Good Shopping Guide are met by Bosch’s strict Code of Conduct, which stipulates that working hours and child labour should correspond to ILO conventions, which are stricter than many nations’ legislation. The company also obtains great marks for its stance on Animal Welfare, Nuclear issues and Armaments.

How can Neff improve its ethical rating?

The Ethical rating of a brand is divided into three categories by The Good Shopping Guide: the Environment, People and Animals. Find out more about how we rate.

By ceasing all political donations and reevaluating how it treats employees, Neff may raise its grade and achieve our core ethical criteria.
