What does Radox do?

Radox is a brand of personal care products, best known for their range of bubble bath and shower gels. The brand was founded in the United Kingdom in 1908 and is now owned by Unilever.

In which areas does Radox perform poorly?

Radox was marked down under our criteria for Organic, due to a lack of organic or organic certified products. It was also marked down for Genetic Modification. This is because its parent company, Unilever, has openly admitted that it uses GMOs in some of its products.

Unilever also states that it does use Animal Testing where required by law, resulting in a bottom rating for Animal Welfare.

Unilever, Radox’s parent company, has come under fire for failing to deliver on its promise to scale back its presence in Russia. Unilever has also been named as one of the companies sourcing palm oil from mills controlled by the Harita Group, who are responsible for the destruction of indigenous communities in Borneo. These are just some examples of why Unilever receives a bottom rating for Public Record Criticisms, our category which examines a company’s unethical activities and whether it has been criticised by important NGOs or media outlets.

In which areas does Radox score well for its ethics?

Radox’s parent company, Unilever, has an Annual Report and Accounts 2022, which contains a wide range of environmental targets across different areas giving them a good score for Environmental Report.

We found no criticisms relating to Nuclear Power, Fossil Fuels or Armaments so Radox scores well for these criteria.

How can Radox improve its ethical rating?

The below-benchmark score that Radox is awarded with on The Good Shopping Guide’s Ethical Soap & Shower Gel Ratings Table is the result of an evaluation of multiple ethical criteria.

To reach our minimum ethical benchmark and qualify for Ethical Accreditation, Radox has many issues it needs to resolve. We recommend that Radox and its parent company work on improving the ethical practices of the company and begin to prioritise animal welfare, human rights and environmental issues in all aspects of the business.
