Smeg

How ethical is Smeg?

Smeg is included in The Good Shopping Guide’s Dishwasher Ethical Ratings Table. In our Ratings Table, the brand obtains a satisfactory Good Shopping Guide ethical score and passes our ethical criteria to be considered a good ethical brand. We encourage other washing machine companies to follow Smeg’s lead and implement more ethical rules and procedures.

More information on the issues this industry faces and the importance of using an energy saving dishwasher may be found in The Good Shopping Guide to Energy-efficient dishwasher brands.

What does Smeg do?

Smeg has been designing household products since 1948, based in Guastalla, italy. Smeg provides a large range of major appliances such as Ovens, dishwashers, Freezers and many more as well as smaller appliances like kettles and toasters. Smeg has even collaborated with Dolce & Gabbana.

In what areas does Smeg perform well?

Smeg performs well in many areas of business.  The brand received a high score as it received no criticism for any Animal Welfare or Human Rights issues. Smeg also receives a high rating in our Nuclear Power, Fossil Fuel, Political Donation and Armament categories as it has no links to any issues regarding this.

How could Smeg rate higher on our Cookers Ethical Ratings Table?

On its website, Smeg has both an environmental policy and a sustainability report that details achievements. Each of these offer little information and no goals for the brand to pursue, earning the dishwasher brand a low score. The human rights standards mentioned in Smeg’s Code of Conduct are quite vague, giving the brand a medium grade.

Smeg is eligible for Ethical Accreditation due to its satisfactory score according to The Good Shopping Guide, this is examined by looking at The Environment, Animals and People within a company and how much the brand considers this. Learn more about how we rate.

By adding more information and a variety of goals for the dishwasher company to work towards, as well as by releasing a more thorough Code of Conduct, Smeg might raise its ethical rating score even higher.
