Smelly Men

How ethical is Smelly Men?

Smelly Men is a top-rated brand in The GOOD Shopping Guide‘s Ethical Deodorant Ratings Table, with a GSG score of 98. Owned by Fast Strategy Ltd, Smelly Men is a natural personal care brand making hand-made, vegan products for men, women and boys.

In which areas does Smelly Men perform well?

Smelly Men performs strongly on the environment. It receives top ratings for Environmental Reporting and as an Ethical Innovator, reflecting the detailed Environmental Promise it publishes on its website. It also earns a top rating for genetic modification, as its products contain no GM ingredients.

For animals, Smelly Men sells only cruelty-free, vegan products, so none of its products are tested on animals. Its vegan status has been verified through The GOOD Shopping Guide‘s Vegan Assessment, earning the brand a top rating in this category.

Smelly Men also has a clean record on Armaments, Irresponsible Marketing, Political Donations and Public Record Criticisms, with no negative findings in any of these areas. Find out more about how we assess companies on our How We Rate page.

What makes Smelly Men sustainable?

Smelly Men’s products are made with natural ingredients and are free of SLS, phthalates, parabens and palm oil. The brand sets out this approach in its Ingredients Philosophy.

Its packaging is almost entirely plastic-free. Deodorants come in a push-up cardboard tube that can be recycled with paper and card, while soap comes in a cardboard carton with no shrink wrap or plastic window. Beard oil and shaving serum come in glass bottles with bamboo lids, and the only plastic is a thin lid lining alongside a rubber dropper bulb that cannot yet be recycled. Surfers Against Sewage has named Smelly Men a Plastic Free Champion.

To reduce transport miles, Smelly Men sources its products only from UK suppliers that share its ethical commitments, supporting British businesses in the process. The brand uses Royal Mail for all deliveries because of its lower carbon footprint per parcel, and one of its suppliers, The White Label Botanist, uses renewable energy at its production facility.

How did Smelly Men attain Ethical Accreditation?

Smelly Men attained Ethical Accreditation by completing The GOOD Shopping Guide‘s independent assessment, which examines a company’s policies and practices across the Environment, Animals and People. The brand’s credentials are subject to regular review to make sure it continues to meet our ethical standards.

Having passed the assessment, Smelly Men is permitted to use the GOOD Shopping Guide Ethical Mark to signal its ethical ethos and sustainable initiatives to consumers.
