How ethical is Admiral?

Admiral is an insurance company which has achieved an acceptable score on The Good Shopping Guide’s Ethical Insurance Ratings Table but Ethical Accreditation has not yet been achieved.  This is important because it provides additional approval on the company’s wider ethical, sustainable, and social policies and records.

Read more about the issues facing the Ethical Insurance sector and find out which companies have achieved accreditation for their commitment to being ethical and sustainable.

What does Admiral do?

Admiral is a UK based insurance company founded in 1993 to specialise in car insurance but has since widened its product range. Parent company Admiral Group UK started in 1991 as a division of the Brockbank Group before being purchased by Barclays Private Equity in 1999 and floated on the London Stock Exchange in 2004.

In which areas does Admiral perform well?

Admiral performs well in the Carbon Disclosure & Reduction Targets category, as it discloses its carbon emissions and has committed to reducing them in the future.

The above benchmark score that Admiral is awarded on The Good Shopping Guide’s Ethical Insurance Ratings Table is the result of an evaluation of multiple ethical criteria. Find out more about how we rate.

What can Admiral do to improve its ethical score?

Admiral was award a bottom rating for our criteria concerning its Responsible Investment Policy, as the list of published exclusions to investment revenue does not cover some crucial areas, such as exclusions around controversial weapons. Admiral must tighten up its exclusions in order to attain a better rating in the future.

If it applies for Ethical Accreditation, The Good Shopping Guide would be able to offer some guidance on this to enable Admiral to improve its score. If successful in its application, Admiral would join the certified ethical brands leading the way in progressive and sustainable practices and be permitted to display The Good Shopping Guide’s Ethical Mark in its communications.
