How ethical and sustainable is Bosch?
Bosch is included in The Good Shopping Guide’s Cookers Ethical Ratings Table. Bosch has yet to meet our Ethical Benchmark, but we believe that in the future, the brand will make the necessary changes to function as a more ethical organisation. Bosch might increase consumer trust by applying for Ethical Accreditation, which would include a more complete examination and suggestions for ethical development.
More information on the issues this industry faces may be found in The Good Shopping Guide to eco-friendly cooker brands.

What does Bosch do?
Bosch began in 1898 as an automotive business, eventually branching out into other industries. The brand now has around 50 locations in the UK. Bosch produces a range of products as well as cookers; it also sells garden tools, heating and hot water products, power tools, smart home products and many other home appliances. For which criteria does Bosch perform poorly?
Bosch received a low rating for Human Rights issues and Political Donations. Bosch was criticised as several thousand workers protested against planned plant closures as around 1,000 staff in Germany will lose their jobs by 2025. The brand has also donated over $84k in recent election cycles.
Past Criticisms of Bosch’s ethical record
Bosch faced criticism after receiving a low score of 13.1/100 in the Corporate Information Transparency Index which evaluates a company’s supply chain practices. Bosch was also criticised after agreeing to pay $25 million to resolve a case of involvement in diesel emissions scandals; more on this emissions case here.
In what areas does Bosch score well for its ethics?
Bosch receives a high score for its Environmental Report; its Sustainability Report includes goals on carbon emissions, water and renewable energy as well as providing evidence of progress throughout this. Bosch also has a strong Code of Conduct mentioning that child labour and working hours should follow ILO conventions, these are stricter than many countries’ laws and therefore meet The Good Shopping Guide’s criteria. The brand also receives a high score for Armaments, Nuclear issues, Fossil Fuels and Animal Welfare.
How can Bosch improve its Ethical Rating?
The Ethical Rating of a brand is divided into three categories by The Good Shopping Guide: the Environment, People and Animals. Find out more about how we rate and research brands.
Bosch might apply for Ethical Accreditation for more detailed guidance on how to improve its ESG/ CSR and other ethics policies.
Bosch may improve its Ethical Rating and meet our fundamental Ethical Benchmark by ceasing all Political Donations and re-evaluating its treatment of workers.
