What does Divine do?
The concept for Divine Chocolate was established in 1993 when a Fairtrade company, Nana, and a group of traders teamed up to create a brand that would belong to the farmers in Ghana. The Divine name was created in 2002 along with its first chocolate bar and within months had spread to the UK. Read more about Divine’s story here.
Divine sells organic, Fairtrade chocolate in a range of different flavours now available for purchase in multiple countries.
In what areas does Divine perform well?
Divine received a top rating for providing vegan chocolate that is certified by The Vegan Society.
The brand is also one of the best Fairtrade chocolate brands for its availability in most supermarkets, and the brand is listed by the Fairtrade Foundation. As a result, Divine receives a top rating in the Fairtrade category.
How could Divine rate higher on our Ethical Chocolate Rating Tables?
Due to its acceptable score, Divine is eligible for Ethical Accreditation from The Good Shopping Guide. Ethical Accreditation would further increase customers’ confidence in the brand.
To improve its score further, Divine should consider looking into its Environmental Report and ensure that it is setting goals to focus on for the future to prove how this brand is helping the environment. This would move its Environmental Report from a middle to a top rating.
Additionally, although Divine is palm oil free, its parent company, Ludwig Weinrich, sources palm oil for its chocolate. Divine could improve its rating if Ludwig Weinrich switched to palm oil free products.
