How ethical is Eukanuba?
Eukanuba is a brand of dog and cat food owned by Spectrum Brands Holdings Inc. It sells dog food tailored for dogs of different breeds and life stages. Eukanuba also sells a range of cat food. Unfortunately, Eukanuba does not have a high score on The Good Shopping Guide’s Ethical Cat and Dog Food Ratings Table and as it does not meet our minimum ethical benchmark, it cannot be classed as ethical.
The Good Shopping Guide could offer Eukanuba a detailed assessment and some recommendations on how it could improve to reach our benchmark if it were to apply for Ethical Accreditation.
The Ethical Cat and Dog Food Ratings Table shows where Eukanuba ranks against other brands within the Cat and Dog Food sector. It can help you to learn more about the criteria that a brand needs to meet to reach our minimum ethical benchmark.
We encourage all brands to follow in the footsteps of our top-rated brands and apply for Ethical Accreditation.
In which areas does Eukanuba receive a high score?
Aside from having a clean record in the Nuclear Power, Fossil Fuels and Armaments categories, Eukanuba does not achieve a top rating for any criteria in our Cat & Dog Food assessment.
What does Eukanuba receive a bottom score for?
Unfortunately, Eukanuba receives a bottom score for Animal Welfare. Its parent company Spectrum Brands still tests on animals. Its website states that it performs animal testing when mandated to do so, but does not “conduct or permit studies that require invasive techniques or loss of life”. We hope that in the future that Eukanuba will stop animal testing to improve its score.
What can Eukanuba do to improve its score?
Eukanuba’s score is the result of a calculation of multiple ethical criteria carried out by The Good Shopping Guide. We would like to see Eukanuba improve upon its bottom score in the Animal Welfare category and stop testing on animals. In doing so, it could see its position rise on the Ethical Cat and Dog Food Ratings Table.
Hopefully, Eukanuba will improve upon its bottom rating so that it can see its score rise on our table and if it applied, we could offer it Ethical Accreditation for its cat and dog food.
