Panasonic

How ethical and sustainable is Panasonic?

Panasonic is included in The Good Shopping Guide‘s Ethical Televisions Ratings Table. It has yet to meet our ethical standards, but we believe that in the future, the brand will make the necessary changes to function as a more ethical organisation. Panasonic may be able to increase consumer and investor trust by applying for Ethical Accreditation, which would include a complete examination and suggestions for ethical development.

More information on the necessity of energy-efficient TVs may be found in The Good Shopping Guide to Ethical TVs. Then, in our Ethical Televisions Ratings Table compare Panasonic’s Ethical Ratings to other well-known brands.

What does Panasonic do?

Panasonic UK, the TV brand, was established in 1972 and is known for its production of electronic products. Panasonic produces 4K, OLED and Smart TVs as well as different cameras, home entertainment, home appliances and personal health care products. Panasonic is a part of the Panasonic Corporation.

For which ethical criteria does Panasonic perform poorly?

Panasonic received a low rating for its relations to Nuclear Power, Political Donations, Human Rights issues and lack of ECO Labels. Panasonic is listed on the Nuclear Engineering International website. The brand was criticised for alleged worker rights abuses in Mexico.

Panasonic also received 13/100 from KnowTheChain for its efforts to address forced labour and human trafficking in its supply chains. The brand donated over $256k in recent election cycles.

The brand received a middle rating for Armaments as Panasonic has many products that are marketed towards the military.

In what areas does Panasonic score well for its ethics?

Panasonic receives a high score for its Environmental Report, Code of Conduct and no investments in Fossil Fuels, Animal Welfare issues and Conflict Materials. The brand has a Green Impact Plan, including targets on carbon emissions as well as targets for waste and recycling.

Panasonic’s Code of Conduct speaks on typical restrictions; the brand is also a member of RMI and mentions surveying suppliers within its responsible supply chain document.

How can Panasonic improve its Ethical Rating?

The Ethical Rating of a brand is divided into three categories by The Good Shopping Guide: the Environment, People and Animals. Panasonic might apply for Ethical Accreditation to receive more detailed guidance on how to improve.

Panasonic can make a start on improving its Ethical Rating and meet our fundamental ethical requirements by addressing the Human Rights concerns associated with the brand as well as ceasing all impact on political elections and not targeting the military as a core customer.
