Solgar

Is Solgar a sustainable vitamin and supplement brand?

Created in the 1940s, Solgar is a below-benchmark brand within The Good Shopping Guide’s Ethical Vitamins & Supplements Sector. As a result of its low score, Solgar cannot yet be classified as an ethical vitamin and supplement brand.

Even though it does not quite reach our minimum benchmark, The Good Shopping Guide still recommends that Solgar gets in touch to apply for Ethical Accreditation. After it applies, The Good Shopping Guide would be able to provide Solgar with an evaluation and some advice on how to improve upon its score.

Why does Solgar receive a top rating for its Environmental Report?

Nestlé, Solgar’s parent company has a recent ‘Creating Shared Value and Sustainability’ Report.

Within the report, there are a number of environmental targets including reaching Net Zero by 2050 and having 100% recyclable packaging by 2025.  The report also demonstrates evidence of progress for previous targets.

Does Solgar produce cruelty-free supplements?

Unfortunately, Nestlé confirms on its website that it does test on animals.

As a result, Solgar receives a bottom rating for our Animal Welfare category. We hope that in the future Solgar will produce some cruelty-free vitamins and supplements.

What can Solgar do to improve its score?

The low score that Solgar has on The Good Shopping Guide’s Vitamins & Supplements Ethical Ratings Table is the result of an evaluation of a variety of ethical criteria.

Although it has a below-benchmark score in the Ethical Vitamins & Supplements Sector ,we still recommend that Solgar get in touch and apply for Ethical Accreditation.
