Vivera was marked down under our criteria for Organic and Vegetarian due to a lack of certification. Vivera gets a bottom score for Animal Welfare as parent company, JBS S.A., has one of the worst animal welfare records among livestock slaughter plants according to the Animal Welfare Institute.

Past Criticisms of Vivera’s record

JBS, Vivera’s parent company, along with three other slaughterhouses, is facing lawsuits seeking millions of dollars for environmental damages after they allegedly purchased cattle raised illegally in protected areas of the Brazilian rainforest.

Vivera scores well for its Environmental Report as JBS has a Sustainability Report 2022 containing lots of targets including carbon emissions and water usage.
