Bosch

How ethical is Bosch?

Bosch is a German appliance brand which was founded by Robert Bosch in 1886. The Bosch company now operates across the automotive, industrial technology and household goods sectors.

Bosch has been given a below-benchmark score on The Good Shopping Guide’s Ethical Kitchen Appliances Ratings Table. Although it has not yet met our ethical benchmark, we hope to see Bosch make progress in future.

In which areas does Bosch perform poorly?

Bosch is given a bottom rating for Political Donations, as parent company, Robert Bosch GmbH, donated an amount higher than our benchmark for a middle rating in recent election cycles.

The brand also gets a bottom score for Human Rights, as there have been mass protests over job cuts at its plants in Germany, and evidence suggestive of forced labour at factories across China supplying Bosch. Find out more about how we rate by exploring our ethical criteria.

In which areas does Bosch score well for its ethics?

Bosch has a Sustainability Report 2021 with goals and evidence of progress, and a robust Code of Conduct which includes ILO conventions, therefore it gets a top rating for both our Environmental Report and Code of Conduct criteria.

We found no criticisms of Bosch relating to; Nuclear Power, Fossil Fuels, Animal Welfare, or Armaments so it scores well for these criteria.

How can Bosch improve its ethical rating?

The below-benchmark score that Bosch is awarded is the result of an evaluation of multiple ethical criteria. To reach our minimum benchmark score and qualify for Ethical Accreditation, Bosch has some issues to resolve including its poor human rights record.
