Good shopping guide ethical accreditation tick

Dunelm

Does Dunelm make ethical and sustainable furniture?

Dunelm is an above-benchmark brand within The Good Shopping Guide’s Ethical Furniture sector. As it is already an above-benchmark brand, Dunelm needs only to apply for Ethical Accreditation to be awarded with our logo. The Good Shopping Guide would provide Dunelm with a thorough assessment as well as some minor recommendations on how it could raise its score on the Furniture Ethical Ratings Table.

To find out how other brands within the Ethical Furniture sector score compared to Dunelm, you can visit the Furniture Ethical Ratings Table. Our Ratings Tables can help you to learn more about the criteria that a brand has to meet so that it can reach our minimum Ethical Benchmark.

The Good Shopping Guide suggests that all brands follow the example set by our top-rated brands and adopt more ethical practices before applying for Ethical Accreditation.

What does Dunelm receive a top rating for?

As a high-scoring brand, The Good Shopping Guide awards Dunelm with a top rating in many of our categories. However, we were especially pleased with its top rating for our Environmental Report category.

Dunelm has a recent Sustainability Report which contains lots of targets. These include targets for carbon reduction, as well as packaging and responsible sourcing. The report also contains evidence of progress on previous targets.

What ratings does Dunelm need to work on?

Dunelm does not have any bottom ratings on the Furniture Ethical Ratings Table. It does, however, have a middle score for its Timber Sourcing Policy that it needs to improve upon before Dunelm furniture can be classed as a fully sustainable furniture brand.

Dunelm’s Responsible Timber Policy states that its goal is to ensure that by 2025, 50% of all timber in its own-brand products range must be more responsibly sourced. However, its ‘Responsibly Sourced’ criteria includes PEFC certification as well as FSC and allows non-certified sources.

As a result, Dunelm is awarded with a middle rating as it does have a policy, but the target is vague.

What can Dunelm do to improve its score?

Dunelm’s excellent score within The Good Shopping Guide’s Ethical Furniture sector is the result of a calculation of multiple ethical criteria. As it is already an abov- benchmark score, all Dunelm needs to do is apply for Ethical Accreditation so that we could award it with our certification. Dunelm would also receive some advice from The Good Shopping Guide on how it could improve its middle rating for its Timber Sourcing Policy which would allow it to rise further on the Furniture Ethical Ratings Table.
