How ethical is Fry’s?

Fry’s is a food brand which has a good score on The Good Shopping Guide’s Ethical Vegan & Vegetarian Foods Ratings Table.

With an above-benchmark GSG score, Fry’s can be considered an ethical brand. Fry’s hasn’t yet applied for Ethical Accreditation, but its high score would mean that if it did, it would be able to display The Good Shopping Guide’s Ethical Mark on its products.

We encourage other companies in the Ethical Vegan & Vegetarian Foods sector to follow Fry’s example and adopt more ethical policies and practices.

What does Fry’s do?

Fry’s is a meat substitute brand founded by South Africans Wally and Debbie Fry in 1991. The brand produces plant-based biltong, a traditional South African meat snack, as well as a range of convenience foods including some gluten-free products.

In which areas does Fry’s perform well?

Fry’s performs well for its Environmental Report as parent company, LiveKindly Collective, has a Sustainability page with evidence of progress and targets for the future. It also gets a top score for Vegetarian as it is certified by The Vegan Society.

We found no criticisms of Fry’s relating to; GM, Nuclear, Fossil Fuels, Animal Welfare, Political Donations or Armaments, therefore the brand scores well for these criteria. Find out more about how we rate.

What can Fry’s do to improve its score?

The above benchmark score that Fry’s is awarded on The Good Shopping Guide’s Ethical Vegan & Vegetarian Foods Ratings Table is the result of an evaluation of multiple ethical criteria. As Fry’s already receives a top score in the  Ethical Vegan & Vegetarian Foods sector, we encourage it to get in touch and apply for Ethical Accreditation, after which it will be offered the use of The Good Shopping Guide Ethical Mark.

However we would also encourage Fry’s to gain organic certification in order to improve its score. If it applies for Ethical Accreditation, The Good Shopping Guide would be able to offer some guidance on this.

Were you aware that your brand could benefit from Ethical Accreditation? If accredited by The Good Shopping Guide, brands can display our Ethical Mark, showcasing to consumers that it is an ethical and sustainable supplier.
