Promise

How ethical is Promise?

Promise is a bread brand which has a good score on The Good Shopping Guide’s Ethical Bread Ratings Table. With a high GSG score, Promise can be considered an ethical brand. Promise hasn’t yet applied for Ethical Accreditation, but its high score would mean that if it did, it would be able to display The Good Shopping Guide’s Ethical Mark on its products.

We encourage other companies in the Ethical Bread sector to follow Promise’s example and adopt more ethical policies and practices.

What does Promise do?

Promise is an Irish brand of gluten free bread, cakes and other bakery products designed to be high in fibre and low in sugar and fat, made in a 100% gluten free facility. Promise is owned by Mayfair Equity Partners LLP.

In which areas does Promise perform well?

Promise has an ESG Strategy which talks about energy efficiency, waste, packaging, supply chain efficiency and supporting local communities, so it gets a top score for its Environmental Report.

We found no criticisms relating to GM, Palm Oil, Nuclear, Fossil Fuels, Animal Welfare, Political Donations or Armaments therefore Promise scores well across these criteria. Find out more about our ethical criteria.

What can Promise do to improve its score?

The above benchmark score that Promise is awarded on The Good Shopping Guide’s Ethical Bread Ratings Table is the result of an evaluation of multiple ethical criteria.

As Promise already receives a top score in the Ethical Bread sector, The Good Shopping Guide encourages it to get in touch and apply for Ethical Accreditation. After sending in its application, Promise will be offered the use of The Good Shopping Guide Ethical Mark.

However we would encourage Promise to gain some Organic certification and cease its use of Palm Oil in order to improve its score. If Promise applies for Ethical Accreditation, The Good Shopping Guide would be able to offer some guidance on this.

Were you aware that your brand could benefit from Ethical Accreditation? If accredited by The Good Shopping Guide, brands can display our Ethical Mark, showcasing to consumers that it is an ethical and sustainable supplier.
