How ethical is Sheba?

Sheba is known as a luxury cat food brand which sells a variety of products such as cat soup and creamy snacks. Sheba is owned by Mars Inc. Unfortunately, Sheba receives a low score on the Ethical Cat and Dog Food Ratings Table as it does not meet The Good Shopping Guide’s minimum ethical benchmark. If it were to apply for Ethical Accreditation, The Good Shopping Guide could provide Sheba with a detailed assessment and recommendations on how it can improve to reach our benchmark.

The Ethical Cat and Dog Food Ratings Table shows where Sheba ranks against other brands within the Cat and Dog Food sector and can help you learn more about the criteria that it needs to meet in order to reach our ethical benchmark.

We encourage all brands to follow in the footsteps of our top-rated brands and apply for Ethical Accreditation.

What does Sheba receive a top score for?

Sheba receives a top score for its Environmental Report. Its website has a page dedicated to sustainability with information on fish from sustainable fisheries and coral reefs. Some of Sheba’s European fish products have the blue Marine Stewardship Council Label. Sheba’s climate change and packaging sections redirect the customer to Sheba’s manufacturer Mars’ website where there is more detail.

Is Sheba an Organic pet food brand?

Sheba receives a bottom score in our Organic category as it does not offer any organic cat food. We hope that in the future Sheba will introduce some organic products so that its score can improve.

What does Sheba receive a bottom score for?

A bottom score is given to Sheba for Genetic Modification. Its parent company Mars has a statement on its website that says it believes that genetically modified ingredients are safe. Under The Good Shopping Guide’s criteria, a bottom rating is automatically given to brands which use genetically modified ingredients or do not oppose them.

What can Sheba do to improve its score?

Sheba’s score is the result of a calculation of multiple ethical criteria carried out by The Good Shopping Guide. We would like to see Sheba improve upon its bottom scores in the categories of Organic and Genetic Modification so that its place can rise on our table.

Hopefully, Sheba will improve upon these bottom ratings so it can see its score rise on the Ethical Cat and Dog Food Ratings Table and we could offer it Ethical Accreditation for its cat food.
