In what areas does Weleda perform well?
Weleda performs well across most categories of our research, receiving good ratings for the Environment, Animals, and People.
Weleda’s key achievements include its Environmental Report, (Sustainability Report 2020) which states the brand’s goals for 2022 as well as targets for carbon emissions and proof of Weleda’s success.
For consumers concerned about GM crops in skincare, Weleda have an anti-GM policy available to read. Weleda state that its products are “[f]ree from microplastics, genetically modified ingredients, and petroleum-derived ingredients.”
Additionally, many of Weleda’s products are certified-Organic by NATRUE. Organic products are particularly important in skincare, as our skin is an incredible absorbent organ, and if toxic agrochemicals are present in the ingredients, they can enter into our bodies. Buying Organic skincare products also prevents farmers and the environment from being harmed by pesticides.
In terms of Animal Welfare, Weleda scores highly as it clearly states its anti-animal testing stance on its website, and does not sell products in store in mainland China where animal testing is required by law.
To achieve our Ethical Accreditation Award Weleda could invest in gaining Vegan/ Vegetarian certification, which would certify any products that claim to be free from animal products or by-products.
