Avallen awarded Ethical Accreditation and tops Spirits table.
We are pleased to announce Avallen Spirits as the latest company to achieve Ethical Accreditation from The Good Shopping Guide! A detailed assessment of Avallen’s policies and practices relating to the Environment, Animals and People, found that Avallen qualifies for an outstanding GSG score of 92. This places Avallen at the top of our Spirits Ethical Comparison Table, a well-deserved achievement.
Avallen sells calvados, a Normandy-based brandy made from apples. Avallen’s products have a significantly lower water footprint than traditional spirits, with each bottle needing just 1.2 litres of water to produce, which is 70-95% less than other types of spirit. For instance, a single bottle of bourbon requires an average of 13 litres of water to produce!
The company also ensures that its products are packaged sustainably, offering 3 different options to customers. This includes a traditional glass bottle made from 65% recycled glass (the highest recycled glass content available) and a paper bottle with a significantly lower carbon and water footprint. Due to its sustainability commitments, Avallen receives a top rating in the Environmental Report category of our research.
Avallen also pays close attention to animal welfare, and has received a top rating in both the Animal Welfare and Vegetarian/Vegan categories of our Spirits research. The company’s calvados has been approved by The Good Shopping Guide as vegan, the only ingredients being apples and water. You can therefore be sure that you are not contributing to animal cruelty when purchasing a bottle of Avallen calvados.
Additionally, Avallen lists bee conservation as a high priority within its ethical policies. Through its membership to 1% for the Planet, the company donates 2% of its profits to the Bumblebee Conservation Trust. Avallen has also planted thousands of flowers across Normandy to enable bee populations in the region to thrive. Bees are an essential part of our ecosystems, so it is great to see a company like Avallen displaying such a strong commitment to protecting the welfare of these important insects.
With a highly sustainable product and clear commitment to bee conservation, Avallen Spirits is a truly ethical and sustainable company. The Good Shopping Guide is proud to approve Avallen as one of our latest Ethical Accreditation members.
