Ansvar

How ethical and sustainable is Ansvar?

Ansvar is included in The Good Shopping Guide’s Ethical Insurance Ratings Table. The insurance provider has yet to meet our ethical standards, but we hope that in the future, the brand will make the required changes to operate as a more ethical organisation. By attaining Ethical Accreditation, Ansvar can increase consumer trust and obtain precise ethical recommendations from The Good Shopping Guide.

More information on the necessity of Ethical Insurance may be found in The Good Shopping Guide to Ethical Insurance Companies. Then compare it to other insurance companies in our Ethical Insurance Rating Table.

What does Ansvar do?

Ansvar was established in 1887 and initially created to protect parish churches from fire; now Ansvar provides a range of insurance for charity, non-profit and faith organisations. Due to the aligning views, Ecclesiastical and Benefact Group Plc have owned Ansvar Insurance since 1998.

For which criteria does Ansvar perform poorly?

Ansvar’s Environmental Report obtained a middle rating. The insurance company has targets on its carbon emissions but does not set any goals for other environmental issues, despite the extra ethical information on its CSR page. This is insufficient for a firm of this magnitude, resulting in Ansvar’s middle rating.

The brand also receives a middle rating for its Responsible Investment Policy because, according to its parent company, Ecclesiastical’s CSR page and Annual Report, the company seeks to avoid controversial investments such as alcohol, tobacco, fossil fuels, gambling and armaments but still invests in some of these areas to a certain extent.

In what areas does Ansvar score well for its ethics?

Ansvar ranks highly in the areas of Environmental Destruction, Political Contributions and Irresponsible Lending, due to having no known connections or relationships with any of these concerns.

How can Ansvar improve its ethical rating?
Ansvar may apply for Ethical Accreditation for more specific advice on how to develop and strive to be one of the best insurance companies. By improving its Enviromental Report and including more specific environmental targets Ansvar could improve its Ethical Rating. The Good Shopping Guide divides a brand’s Ethical Rating into three categories: the Environment, People, and Animals. Find more on how we rate and research here.
