ECOS

How ethical and sustainable is ECOS?

ECOS is included in The Good Shopping Guide’s Laundry Detergent Ethical Ratings Table. ECOS has yet to meet our ethical standards, but we believe that in the future, the brand will make the necessary changes to function as a more ethical organisation. ECOS might increase consumer trust by applying for Ethical Accreditation, which would include a more complete examination and suggestions for ethical development.

Are you interested in seeing how ECOS rates against other brands within the Ethical Laundry Detergent Sector? Visit the Laundry Detergent Ethical Ratings Table. From The Good Shopping Guide’s Ratings Tables, you can learn more about the criteria that our top-rated brands have fulfilled.

What does ECOS do?

Van Vlahakis established ECOS in 1967 with the goal of developing cleaner cleaning products that safeguard both human and environmental health. A variety of cleaning, dishwashing, hand soap, cleaners, disinfectants, and pet care products are offered by ECOS. Eco-friendly laundry detergent and pet grooming spray are included in this product line. ECOS is owned by Venus Laboratories Inc, formerly Earth Friendly Products.

For which criteria does ECOS perform poorly?

For political donations and public record criticisms, ECOS obtained a moderate rating.

Past Criticisms of ECOS’s ethical record

When ECOS advertised items as non-toxic when they fact included a poisonous chemical that can be fatal in small amounts, the company came under fire. According to federal regulations, phenoxyethanol is hazardous and is reportedly one of the constituents in several ECOS products.

In what areas does ECOS score well for its ethics?

The fact that ECOS is a member of The Vegan Society and a CFI-certified organisation earns it a good rating. A sustainability report from Ecos includes benchmarks for carbon emissions and plastic packaging as well as evidence of progress. Also, ECOS maintains a list of “nasties” that are excluded from ECOS goods.

How can ECOS improve its ethical rating?

The Ethical rating of a brand is divided into three categories by The Good Shopping Guide: the Environment, People and Animals. Find out more about how we rate.

By stopping all political donations and making sure that all phenoxyethanol is eliminated from products, ECOS can raise its rating and meet our fundamental ethical standards.

Are you curious about how obtaining Ethical Accreditation could be beneficial for your brand? Accredited brands can display The Good Shopping Guide mark, showcasing to consumers that it can be trusted as an ethical and sustainable brand.
